Porcelain, ceramic, or natural stone?
- Porcelain is dense, very water-resistant, and hard-wearing. It’s our usual recommendation for floors that see water, sand, or heavy traffic, and it comes in convincing wood, stone, and concrete looks.
- Ceramic is a lighter-duty, budget-friendly option that works well on walls and in lower-traffic rooms.
- Natural stone — marble, travertine, slate — has a look nothing else matches, but needs sealing and more care.
Where tile fits best
Tile is the most water-tolerant floor we install. It’s the natural choice for bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, entryways, and mudrooms — anywhere wet feet, muddy boots, or sandy dogs come through the door. That makes it especially useful in low-lying and waterfront areas like Poquoson, Seaford, and Gloucester. Tile works well over concrete slab and over a properly stiffened wood subfloor.
Layouts
We install large-format tile, mosaics, and patterned layouts such as herringbone and hex. Large-format tile needs a very flat substrate to avoid lippage (edges that don’t sit level), which is why flattening is part of our prep, not an afterthought.
Why prep is everything
A long-lasting tile floor starts with what’s underneath: a stiff, flat subfloor keeps tile and grout looking great for years. We check deflection and flatness at the measurement and use the right underlayment, crack isolation, or waterproofing for the room.
How a tile job runs
- Free on-site measurement: room dimensions, subfloor check, and layout planning — where cuts land, how tile meets doorways and other floors.
- Clear scope and price, including prep and old flooring removal if requested.
- Prep: removal, subfloor repair, flattening, underlayment or membrane.
- Set, grout, and finish: including thresholds and transitions.

Porcelain or ceramic for a kitchen floor?
Many homeowners choose porcelain for kitchens because it’s dense and durable, while ceramic is a nice option for walls and lighter-use rooms. We’re happy to help you compare.
Can tile go over my existing floor?
It depends on the project. Sometimes removing the old floor is the better route; we’ll take a look and recommend an approach at your measurement.
How soon can I walk on new tile?
It depends on the materials used. We’ll share typical cure times for your project so you can plan around them.
